...to a few things that caught my eye during my trip around the web this lunch hour:
- great photo here, makes a much better desktop image than that awful stonehenge one you're still using
- give a woman manna from heaven, and she'll eat for a day. give her worms, and she'll fish all week.
- mark my words, the cubbies are making this move to deal kendall, possibly packaged with a pitcher for an all-star 3B whose team won't negotiate an extension until after the season. you can say you read it here first.

As to your third item, I believe it is the 3rd baseman who will not negotiate until the end of the season, not the team, which has made the unprecedented move (for them) of attempting mid-season contract negotiations.
point taken-'tis true that a-rod is the one not negotiating. still say he moves, though. the caliber of season he's having when compared with the yankees' record is proof alone that even at his best, something about him and this club doesn't mix.
Conversely, his performance vis-a-vis the Yanks in general demonstrates it will take more than a superstar to create a winning team. He is having a career year, yet it has not lifted the team at all. All the Billy Beane-ers out there are looking at A-Rod and thinking, "Why pay $30 million per year, with no guarantee for finishing first?"
because there's no doubt he can help somebody. he's an amazing player- one of the best ever- and if he can find a place to click, will help that team win. see also: shaq
No way do the Yankees trade A-Rof for any package that includes Jason Kendall. Kendall is one of the 5 worst regular players in all of baseball. You don't trade an all-time great for someone that awful.

was waiting for someone to make that statement...
here's what the yankees get with kendall- someone who can catch (as posada can't), an ability to put posada where he belongs (DH) and get rid of damon or whomever they put in that slot, and unfortunately not much else.
the yanks would love to get ted lilly back, and while the cubbies can't afford to give up too much pitching given their recent track record of injuries, they'll likely have to give up one of their big 3 (lilly, hill or zambrano), plus kendall, plus a prospect, to get a-rod.
i guess my suspicion on trading kendall is based on the fact that the cubs seem to have no other reason to have acquired him than to try and flip him, and we know they're interested in a-rod.
No A Rod until Cuban owns the team.
But they did just dump a shortstop and they do have 4 catchers. . ..
