FoF's in the news

here's a short piece from the washington post featuring official finkipedia economist and sister-in-law (national division) RK-K.

supports both the arguments of teachers that they work hard outside the classroom, and the arguments of others that teachers overall work less than other professions.

i'd like to see a financial analysis based on the hours worked of the true hourly rate of a teacher's salary vs. other professions. that would be interesting, and most likely very disappointing.

Current teacher and official brother-in-law to Finkipedia and to the official Finkipedia economist, Mr. Nick Kent is going to be up in arms about this study. He's fond of saying that teachers do a year's worth of work in 9 months. As a son of a career educator (both my parents were teachers) and now a person with 10 years of work experience, I'd say that Nick's saying is bunk. I'm just glad that I have evidence to back up my gut feeling.

I think studies might surprise you actually.

"Teachers earned more per hour than architects, civil engineers, mechanical engineers, statisticians, biological and life scientists, atmospheric and space scientists, registered nurses, physical therapists, university-level foreign-language teachers, librarians, technical writers, musicians, artists, and editors and reporters. Note that a majority of these occupations requires as much or even more educational training as does K–12 teaching"

Also, this doesn't include the fringe benefits offered teachers, including health and retirement benefits - labeled here as much as 26% of their salary.
